Reviews

We are most grateful that we often get some lovely feedback and comments from people, so we have started to record some of those comments here…

This is a lengthy review translated from German.  I have highlighted the parts that relate to us!

“My review on the Folkival in Nürtingen:
Johannes Single as the main organizer has once again managed to bring an incredibly strong line up of bands and musicians on stage.
Durina and I are guests in the Kuckucksei for now 6 years and every time we were on our way home again our strength and momentum for the new year have been recharged through the great people we met and the fantastic music we listened to.
Of course it’s always the case that you remember some acts for years and some are gradually forgotten. But this year something special happened. It was for sure one of the best line ups of artists in Nürtingen ever. The quality was extremely high and als a listener you knew what to expect.
On the 1st day Paddy Schmidt stood out with his ingenious bassist Uwe “Eagle Owl” Bender… Top class performance, just like Kieran Halpin. Dan Fraser, who was the opening act of the Folkival, and Reelin’ TarKatz completed the line-up.
The 2nd day brought a monster-strong selection to the start. In my opinion the best ever. The Hoodie Crows, Gudrun Walther and Jürgen Treyz and finally the Daoiri Farrel Trio. That promised great music and the promise was kept. Highest level… fantastic, ecstatic…
But the relatively unknown duo Eclectic Shed Experience from Wales really took the cake. They were the first act of the 2nd day to heat up the audience for the other three bands.
But what then struck the people in the Kuckucksei was exorbitantly. Liz and Ron caused an emotional tsunami through their performance of self-written songs and well-known titles, delivered with a sea of lifeblood. Wonderful lyrics, fantastically harmonizing voices and their guitars gripped and shook the listeners like in shock waves. Standing ovations, wet eyes, thunderous applause were the result and the two musicians were completely blown away by the reactions of the audience.
I have surely heard the song “Ride on” of Jimmy MacCarthy hundreds of times from all kinds of great artists. But the version the Eclectic Shed Experience conjured into the Kuckucksei on this memorable evening surpassed by far any other fantastic and outstanding versions of the song I’ve ever heard.
Maybe I’ve heard it better in guitar technique, maybe I’ve heard it better in picking, many versions were more rocky or stood out in other ways, BUT… the emotions that they both caused completely blew me away. That was probably also the case for many others, because at the end of this song the crowd almost went crazy.
All in all a gig that I will remember for many years to come.
This was an absolute, complete madness to me. Listen to this performance again and then die…
Thanks for that “Exclusive Shock Experience”.
